A robot is basically a machine which can be programmed. We all as children have owned or seen a toy robot, well now what started as a fantasy in a fictional story written by Asimov in 1942 has become a reality. This website is called Robotic and hopefully will enlighten your knowledge and your interest in these human creations.

ROBOTS UNDER WATER (ROBOLOBSTER)
 
Robots in the present age are used everywhere and for almost anything. If the work is dirty or dangerous then somebody somewhere has designed a robot to get things done.  Underwater is no exception.  Humans have many limitations when venturing down below the earths surface, it is very dark and there are things that can eat you.  All of these are very good reasons to send down a robot who can send back pictures, perform various scientific tasks and be able to be controlled by humans sitting in a dry warm office.

The first underwater robots were rather simple units who could perform basic tasks such as arms that looked like lobsters claws that could undo valves and weld and do simple useful things.  They were used (and still are) on Oil rigs.
